Scarlett's mother alleges police-politician nexus

April 28, 2008 09:36 IST

The mother of British teenager Scarlett Eden Keeling, who was found dead on Anjuna beach, on Monday demanded that the conduct of the dismissed policeman, who initially handled the case, should be investigated.

Nerlon Albuquerque, who had treated the Scarlett case as 'death by drowning', was sacked by the Goa [ Images ] government early this month. The police later said that the 15-year-old girl was drugged, raped and left to die on Anjuna beach, where her semi-nude body was found on February 18.

"I am happy that the PSI who initially goofed up the case was dismissed from service. But I want the police to investigate his conduct and why he behaved that way," Fiona Mackeown said.

Fiona alleged that the PSI's conduct could have stemmed from the influence of some politicians, senior police officers or criminals themselves. She will be writing to Chief Secretary J P Singh, seeking a probe into Nerlon's role in the episode.

Fiona, who arrived in Goa on Saturday, has sought an appointment with the Chief Secretary on Monday.

"I also plan to meet Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat, Director General of Police B S Brar and dean of the Goa Medical College (where Scarlett's autopsy was conducted)," she said.

Fiona said that the third autopsy on Scarlett's body in the United Kingdom cannot be completed without first finding the missing organs, which were reportedly removed during the two autopsies in India [ Images ].

"There cannot be complete test as there are organs missing in her body," said Fiona, whose Goa tour ends on May 4.
