Fifteen insurgents of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura, including 13 ultras who managed to escape from their base camps in Bangladesh, have surrendered before security forces in Tripura.

Thirteen NLFT insurgents, who fled from Sajeck hills in Chittagong Hill Tract of the neighbouring country, surrendered to the company commander of 15 Assam Rifles battalion at Hrangkhawlpara, a remote tribal hamlet of West Tripura district on Wednesday, the police said.

The ultras told Assam Rifles personnel that many others like them were trying to escape from their camps in Sajeck Hills.

Another NLFT insurgent surrendered to the commandant of 10 Battalion of Tripura State Rifles at Jirania in West Tripura district on Wednesday, the police said.

Yet another NLFT militant surrendered to the officer-in-charge of Kanchanpur police station in North Tripura district on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a high level meeting chaired by Director General of Police K T D Singh reviewed the law and order in the state.

"Even as insurgency is on the wane, its tentacles are still spread in different parts of the state and we should work more seriously to abolish the menace for ever," he said.
