The 'fatwa' issued against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam patriarch and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi reportedly by former Bharatiya Janata Party MP Ramvilas Vedanti had its repercussions in the state on Sunday, with the BJP headquarters and Hindu Munnani office falling prey to the ire of the DMK supporters.

The houses of BJP's Tamil Nadu unit president H Raja and his father-in-law were attacked allegedly by DMK workers at Karaikudi in neighbouring Sivaganga District late Saturday night.

Hundreds of alleged DMK workers on Sunday ransacked the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit headquarters in Chennai while staging a demonstration against Vedanti's reported 'fatwa' against Karunanidhi for his anti-Ram remarks.

They pelted stones and damaged vehicles parked inside the office complex and broke the flag mast of the party after ransacking the office by breaking the window panes.

The attack comes a day after senior DMK leader and state Electricity Minister N Veerasamy took strong exception to the reported 'fatwa' by Vedanti for beheading Karunanidhi and said he will hold black flag demonstration in front of BJP offices in the state if Vedanti did not withdraw his remarks.

Veerasamy had also asked the party volunteers to give a fitting answer to those who had fixed a price for their leader's life.

The issue gains larger importance in the wake of the Vinayaka idols immersion procession in the city on Sunday.

"The DMK supporters who attacked our office said they would not allow us to carry on with the immersion procession," Hindu Munnani sources claimed

Police said a group of six to seven persons attacked Raja's house by pelting stones and bottles and damaged vehicles and window panes. Some of them also used clubs.

Later, they went to the house of his father-in-law located nearby and pelted stones there also, causing damage to window panes, police added.
