The suspected bomber in the Hyderabad blast, whom the police had picked up based on a portrait made by them, turned out to be an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh.
Rizwan Ghazi was detained on the basis of the potrait that the police prepared with the help of two eye-witnesses.
Unfortunately, Ghazi resembled the sketch on the basis of which he was arrested. However, after heavy interrogation, the police realised that Ghazi was an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh and had been overstaying in the country by producing fake documents.
Ghazi, who could have been booked under the provisions of the terror laws, will now be charged under the Foreigners Act. Ghazi has also been accused of obtaining a fake driving licence.
The incident raises questions about the authenticity--as rediff.com reported earlier--of the sketches being prepared by the Portrait Building System. Some senior officials in investigating agencies had urged immediate updation of the software that could track ultras.
Ghazi had been picked up from Bangalore after the August 25 Hyderabad blasts in which at least 44 persons died.
