Brutally beaten and humiliated by his seniors during ragging, a management student has ended up in the psychiatry ward of a hospital in Lucknow.

Sanjay Singh, a student of the Sahara Arts and Management Academy, was allegedly ragged by students from Lucknow University and some other nearby institutions. Singh and his tormentors lived in the same hostel, said the police.

The student has lost his mental balance because of the incident, said police sources.

However, the hostel authorities have claimed that Sanjay, who lived in a private hostel in Madiaon, had been suffering from a mental disorder.

He was suffering from acute psychosis and was undergoing treatment in the psychiatry ward of the medical college in Lucknow, said hostel authorities.

Singh was allegedly beaten and humiliated while he was on his way to college on September 15. He ran away from the hostel after the incident.

Three inmates of Sanjay's hostel were named in a first information report lodged by the victim's local guardian, sources said.
