The threat of mid-term polls to the state Assembly looms large in Karnataka as the Janata Dal-Secular is determined not to handover power to the Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress leader in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly N Dharam Singh said.

"JD-S will not transfer power to BJP. See what all will happen on October 3," Singh, a former chief minister, told reporters in Bangalore on Thursday.

However, he refused to outline the basis for his claims, but said, "What Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has advised Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will happen."

According to reports, Pawar had reportedly told Kumaraswamy to weigh the pros and cons of handing over power to the BJP during a meeting between them in New Delhi.

Singh, whose Congress-JD(S) government was toppled by Kumaraswamy last year, said the Congress is not eager to align with the JD-S again to form a government.

The Congress is ready for Assembly elections, he said.

Singh said during his visit to New Delhi early this week, he called on Congress president Sonia Gandhi and apprised her of the political situation in Karnataka.
