There was a mixed response to the Communist Party of India-Marxist sponsored 12-hour Nandigram bandh that began at 0600 hours on Monday.
Superintendent of Police (East Midnapur District) G A Srinivasan said, "While it was total in Khejuri I and II blocks, there was practically no response in Nandigram I and II blocks and in Chandipur."
Basudeb Mandal, a CPI-M supporter, received gun shot injuries in Keyakhali village on Sunday night and his condition is stated to be serious in Tamluk hospital, he said.
Firing from both sides continued throughout Sunday night in Ranichak, Takapura, Satengabari and Girir bazaar areas, he added.
Meanwhile, Trinamool leader and convenor of Bhumi Uchched Protirodh Committee Sisir Adhikary said in Contai on Monday, "Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee may enter Girir Bazar area this afternoon from Khejuri side."
She will be united with her supporters in Girir bazaar where at least 100 houses of TMC supporters were set ablaze on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, all roads, including National Highway 41 and Mecheda Haldia road via Tamluk, have been paralysed due to stray incidents and road blockades by CPI-M and TC activists at various places.
No police presence could be scene in the area.
