Hours after Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya transferred five Kolkata police officers, including the police commissioner for involvement in the mysterious death of Rizwanur Rehman, his brother Ruqbanur claimed to have received threats.

"My uncle was warned by a man called S Bhattacharya who called on Wednesday not to let me go to Barasat as I may be fatally attacked on way," Rukbanur told reporters outside his house in Tiljela.

"I appeal to the chief minister to provide security to our family," he said.

Rukbanur said that the government could provide 'security' to Rizwanur's father in-law industrialist Ashok Todi, "then why not our family which is under threat?"

Reacting to the transfer of the police officers, Rizwanur's mother Kishwar Jahan said, "It is belated action. Why only transfer? These officers will commit the same offence wherever they are posted."

"There is nothing to be happy about. We demanded suspension, but it was not done. Only transfer of the officers will not help. If the CBI investigation has to be clear and transparent, these officers should be suspended," Ruqbanur said.

To a question, he hoped that the chief minister would ensure that no pressure was created from any quarter on the CBI during its investigation.
