"I waited for 13 years to smile," says Uma, wife of Gopalganj district magistrate Krishnaiya, who was lynched by a mob in Bihar in 1994.

Uma's long wait for justice finally came to an end on Wednesday, when a Patna court awarded death sentences to three people for inciting a mob to attack Krishnaiya. Former member of Parliament and JD-U leader Anand Mohan was one of them.

"The judgment gave me some satisfaction. At last justice has been done" Uma told rediff.com in a telephonic conversation from Hyderabad.

Uma said that she was thankful to the court as the guilty deserve to be hanged to death for killing her husband.

Uma, who lives in Hyderabad with her two young daughters, said that the judgment will warn culprits against repeating such a brutal act.

"I will appeal to the apex court to uphold the sentences if the convicted accused file a petition for mercy," said Uma, who is lecturer in a government college.

G Krishnaiya, a 1985 batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre, was shot and then stoned by a mob near Khabra village on National Highway 28 on December 5, 1994, while he was returning to Gopalganj after attending an official meeting. The mob was protesting the killing of former Bihar Peoples Party leader Kaushalendra Shukla alias Chhotan Shukla.
