Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday condemned the serial blasts in Uttar Pradesh and announced compensation of Rs one lakh each for the families of those killed in the incidents.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil described the blasts as yet another attempt by anti-national elements to spread panic and asserted that the government would continue to fight terrorism in a resolute manner.

Singh condoled the loss of lives in the blasts and expressed concern for the injured, the official spokesman said.

He announced ex-gratia relief of Rs one lakh for the kin of those killed in the blasts from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund, the spokesman said.

Each seriously injured person will get Rs 50,000.

Singh is in Uganda to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government meet since Thursday.

Condemning the blasts, Patil said the Centre is in touch with the state government to see if any assistance is required.

He conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery to those injured in the terror strikes.

"I am confident that peace-loving people of the country will give a fitting reply to such elements," the home minister said.
