The banned United Liberation Front of Asom militants shot dead three persons late on Sunday night while eight ULFA militants surrendered before the army in Assam on Monday.
Militants belonging to the proscribed ULFA shot dead three persons, including a surrendered ULFA militant in Namsai area inside Arunachal Pradesh bordering Upper Assam's Tinsukia district late on Sunday night.
The police recovered the bodies on Monday morning along with the vehicle they were travelling in.
A police source informed that a surrendered ULFA member and a businessman Simanta Chetia alias Chinese and two of his associates were shot dead by suspected ULFA militants on the bank of Na-Dihing River at Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh while they were travelling in a Tata Sumo vehicle from Kakopathar in Upper Assam's Tinsukia to Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh .
Namsai forest areas in Arunachal Pradesh are infested with the ULFA militants. The army has deployed mobile parties in that area that is used by the ULFA militants for shelter as well as a corridor to travel to Myanmar via Arunachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, eight ULFA militants from the 709 battalion of the outfit surrendered before the army at Tamulpur at around 12.30 pm on Monday.
The army informed that the militants who have surrendered deposited assorted arms and ammunition including three revolvers, one pistol, two grenades, two detonators, 13 rounds of live ammunition for use in AK-47 assault rifles.
The militants who surrendered were Akshya Kalita, Gautom Deka, Ranjit Nath, Phulen Das, Brijen Kalita, Bijoy Kumar, Pipa Boro and Nirmal Murmu. All these well trained militants were basically operating in northern parts of the state.
