A team of the National Human Rights Commission visiting the violence-hit Nandigram on Monday said it had collected "sufficient information" and would submit its report after returning to New Delhi, while another from Amnesty International arrived.
Special Superintendent of Police S P Singh, who led the NHRC team, said the members had interviewed a number of alleged rape victims.
"We have collected a lot of information and documents and will place our findings to the NHRC in New Delhi," Singh said. The team also met refugees at the Brajalal Tewary School during the day and also went to the Nandigram police station. The team is likely to return either Monday night or Tuesday, he said.
A team of Amnesty International also visited a relief camp during the day. Meanwhile, relief material, including utensils, was sent by the Khejuri panchayat to party supporters living in camps after their return following the recapture of Nandigram.
The families were lodged in camps at Bahargunj, Sherkhanchak and Kunjapur at Khejuri, a CPI-M stronghold.
Himangsu Das of the Khejuri gram panchayat, said the relief was sent as those who returned did not have anything, even though their homes had been repaired and made habitable. Those who returned were from violence-hit areas like Satengabari, Ranichak, Brindabanchak, Adhikaripara, Tekhali, Bhangabera and Sonachura.
