The Nandigram issue rocked Parliament on Monday leading to the adjournment of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
The adjournment comes as no surprise as Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party had on Sunday hinting at going ballistic on the Centre's silence about the events in the area.
Trouble began from the word go in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha even as Left members sought to counter BJP's offensive by trying to raise the issue of 2002 Gujarat riots.
In the Lok Sabha, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee repeatedly appealed to members to allow the business of the House and raise the matter after Question Hour.
"I have not rejected anything. No issue, which is important, will be rejected. Please allow the House to run properly," he said.
But, his appeals to maintain calm went unheeded and he adjourned the House till noon.
Similar scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha where Trinamool Congress member Dinesh Trivedi raised the issue.
He was supported by BJP members who trooped into the well waving banners.
"No banners please -- please allow the Question Hour to proceed," Chairman Hamid Ansari said.
His request failed to pacify the agitated Opposition and as the din continued, he adjourned the House till 1200 hours.
The Opposition raised its voice in protest once again when both Houses met again. Repeated appeals for maintaining calm went unheeded, forcing the adjournment of both houses for the day.
