The Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka still has to fulfill eight of the twelve conditions laid down by its coalition partner Janata Dal–Secular.
While the BJP had already fulfilled two conditions, JD-S leader H D Kumaraswamy decided to scrap two more conditions after B S Yeddyurappa was sworn in as chief minister. The current and the former chief minister met at a five star hotel and discussed issues concerning the coalition.
The 12 conditions had been drawn up by JD-S supremo H D Deve Gowda and given to BJP president Rajnath Singh while negotiations for the coalition were going on. Gowda had made it clear that his party will support the BJP in government formation only if all these conditions are fulfilled.
After his meeting with Yeddyurappa, Kumaraswamy decided to drop the conditions demanding that the Assembly be dissolved in case of mid-term Parliamentary polls and the former chief minister head the coordination committee comprising both parties.
However, it is not yet clear if Kumaraswamy will be able to convince his father Deve Gowda about dropping the two conditions.
Gowda had also demanded that the deputy chief minister's position be reserved for the JD-S. The BJP reportedly has no qualms about handing over the post to its coalition partner. Â
The conditions that are yet to be fulfilled are:
The list of ministers and their portfolios will be finalised after consultations with the JD-S
The state government will provide protection to minorities, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Minister and legislators with a complaint or grievance will approach their respective party heads for redressal
Strength of the coordination committee shall be decided by the heads of both parties.
Presidents and leaders of both parties will refrain from airing allegations against each other.
Important administrative postings and appointments will be made in consultation with the JD-S.
The cabinet decisions regarding ongoing development projects will not be altered.
