The Janata Dal (S) may join the Karnataka government a day before B S Yeddyurappa faces the floor test on the house of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. In all probability, JD(S) MLAs may be sworn in on November 18.
Yeddyurappa will take the floor test on November 19.
Even as the JD(S) readies itself to join the government, around 15 MLAs submitted memorandum to the party leader H D Deve Gowda, stating that there should be all new faces in the government.
The memorandum said a chance should be given to new faces and those who were part of the earlier government under Kumaraswamy should not be included.
Interestingly, the memorandum also said, barring H D Revanna and M P Prakash, the rest of the ministry should comprise new faces. Both Revanna and Prakash were part of the earlier government and held the PWD and Home portfolios respectively.
Kumaraswamy had always maintained that new faces should be given a chance and those who were part of his government should be kept out of the new government. However, he had to buckle under pressure from his MLAs who were adamant that he became the deputy chief minister.
While this remains the case in the JD(S) camp, the BJP, too, is working hard preparing its list of ministers. The BJP top brass is under pressure to keep all its MLAs happy. While the BJP cannot whisk away its old brass, there is pressure to give the new faces a chance too.
BJP sources said that their list of ministers will be ready in a day or two. They say that they too would like to swear in their ministers before the floor test.
