The BJP government in Karnataka on Tuesday decided to seek a vote of confidence on the floor of the Assembly on November 19, four days earlier than it preferred to do, following a directive by Governor Rameshwar Thakur to prove its majority within eight days.

This was decided at an emergency cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

After a cabinet meeting, Yeddyurappa had said it was decided to request the Governor to convene a one-day special session of the Assembly legislature on November 23 to enable the government prove its majority.

However, the chief minister said the governor has asked him to prove the majority within eight days of assuming charge.
"This (to prove majority within eight days) was not indicated when the Governor invited me to form the government," Yeddyurappa, who was sworn in on Monday, said.

He said it was earlier decided to take the floor test on November 23 as coalition partner JD(S) had decided that all its ministerial nominees, including the deputy chief minister, would take oath in one go (likely by November 21).
