After Yeddyurappa was sworn in, he met his supporters and then headed towards his new office. He attended a cabinet meeting with four BJP MLAs who had been sworn in along with him on Monday.
The meeting was meant to send out a message to people, "We are in charge now."
Minutes after the meeting, Yeddyurappa walked into his office in the Vidhan Soudha. After exchanging pleasantries, he summoned the top bureaucrats and told them, "I expect results and not lame excuses."
He then directed the babus to finish all incomplete projects within the deadline and also warned that any sort of delay will not be taken lightly. "All of you have to work as per my expectations and there will be no excuses," the 26th chief minister of Karnataka told the bureaucrats.
Incidentally, some of these officials had complained against Yeddyurappa earlier, stating that it was difficult to work with the BJP leader as he had a terrible temper.
Yeddyurappa told rediff.com that his first step was to ensure that ration cards were distributed to the poor across the state within a month. The completion of the road to the Bangalore International Airport was also on his priority list, said the Karnataka CM.
He also wanted to rearrange the chief minister's office as per his taste. Yeddyurappa added that he wouldn't allow pending files to pile up on his desk. The new chief minister said that he didn't want to waste even one day and that's why he convened a meeting of all top officials on day one itself.
According to Yeddyurappa, once the JD-S leaders joined their respective ministries, he planned to convene a meeting of all the ministers and top officials somewhere on the outskirts of the city.
He did not specify why he wanted to hold the meeting outside Bangalore.
