Three persons, including two terrorists and a trooper, were killed and five security men wounded in a four-day-long gunfight in north Kashmir's Sopore town, which ended on Sunday morning.
A senior police officer said the two terrorists holed up inside a hotel building were killed when troops stormed the four-storey building to end the stand off.
"The operation has ended, and both the terrorists have been killed. A Central Reserve Police Force soldier was also killed in the encounter while three other CRPF troopers and two cops of the special operations group of the police were injured," a senior police officer said in Srinagar.
He also said that the operation had to be extended in order to avoid collateral damage to civilian life and property in the densely-populated Sopore town, where the terrorists had on Thursday made an abortive attempt to barge into a CRPF camp. The terrorists then entered a nearby hotel building, which was immediately surrounded by the security forces.
