A three-member All India Congress Committee team sent by Congress president Sonia Gandhi for taking stock of the situation in the violence-hit areas of Dausa and Bundi districts in Rajasthan, was arrested in Dausa, party general secretary and former state chief minister Ashok Gehlot said.

Talking to media persons in Jaipur, Gehlot said the team comprising party leaders Satyavrat Chaturvedi, Krishna Tirath and K C Lenka accompanied by Congress state president B D Kalla and others, was proceeding for violence-hit areas on Tuesday morning when they were arrested.

The team members and other leaders, including Kalla, were earlier stopped at Bassi town and later taken into custody by the police in Dausa, Gehlot said.

Gehlot said the state government's step was unjustified and condemnable as those arrested were all responsible leaders of Congress and were on a mission aimed at restoring peace and normalcy.

The former chief minister said this showed that the state government was unwilling to accept the Oppositions' cooperation.

He also held Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje responsible for creating a communication gap between her government and the agitating Gujjar community leaders.

He reiterated his demand for the chief minister's resignation besides pressing for inquiry by a state high court judge into Tuesday's police firing and proper compensation to the victims' families.
