The Centre on Tuesday rushed over 2000 paramilitary force personnel to trouble-torn districts in Rajasthan to assist the local police in restoring peace.
Home Ministry sources said 1500 more paratroopers were likely to be dispatched to the state.
With tension mounting in the wake of Gurjar community's violent protests in support of its demand for Scheduled Tribe status, Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta spoke to the State chief secretary.
The special secretary (internal security) in the home ministry also discussed the situation with the Rajasthan DGP, the sources said.
Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, in the capital to attend the National Development Council meeting, apprised Home Minister Shivraj Patil of the situation in the state.
The sources said the state government had demanded over 2000 paramilitary force personnel and the Centre immediately started moving the forces.
Besides, some state police jawans from neighbouring Maharashtra, Madhdya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh had been sent to Rajasthan, they said.
13 people were killed and 80 injured in clashes and police firing in Dausa, Karauli and Bundi districts during protests by the Gurjar community, prompting authorities to call out the army on the Jaipur-Agra highway stretch.
