Police said four members of a single family were killed on the spot and two others wounded critically when a cloudburst struck south Kashmir's Wullerhama village, 100 km from the summer capital Srinagar.
They said all the ill-fated persons were busy planting paddy saplings, when the tragedy struck.
"We have recovered the bodies of the deceased. The injured have been evacuated to hospital for treatment," a senior police officer in Srinagar said.
Kashmir has been experiencing highly unusual weather during the past fortnight with average temperatures dropping 8 Degrees Celsius below normal, forcing locals to wear woolens.
Evenings and mornings are unusually cold and there has been fresh snowfall at many places in the upper reaches of the valley.
