The son of Professor H S Sabharwal, who was allegedly murdered on August 26 last year following violence after cancellation of the students' union polls, on Wednesday refused to appear in a local court conducting trial of his father's murder case.

"Till the Supreme Court delivers its ruling in the case, I will not appear in the lower court where trial in the case filed by the state CID is going on and the investigation in the case is not yet complete," Himanshu Sabharwal told PTI over phone from New Delhi.

He was scheduled to appear in the district and sessions court as prosecution witness in the case.

"The prosecution lawyer has not yet spoken to me about the case despite the fact that I am the main witness. Even the tapes available on the incident were not subjected to forensic tests," Himanshu claimed.

"In view of the above, I am questioning the entire probe so far carried out by the prosecution and therefore, decided not to appear in the court till the apex court gives its ruling in the case," he said.

Besides Himanshu, Sabharwal's colleague M L Nath, who was also attacked by students on that day, and several others are listed as witnesses in the case.
