Some 100 policemen mobilised from various parts of the state before the March 14 police action have returned to their posts while 300 are still deployed at Nandigram and Khejuri, a senior official said on Sunday night.
"An estimated 100 police personnel, posted at Nandigram and adjacent Khejuri police stations, have returned to their respective police stations," East Midnapore Superintendent of Police G A Srinivas said.
He said 300 policemen were still posted at the two police stations.
Sources said the police personnel complained of lack of food, accomodation and medical facilities and that they could not sustain any longer in the present situation.
Meanwhile, five bombs were hurled at Adhikarypara in Nandigram block-II triggering fresh panic in the locality.
Bombs were being hurled at night in the area for the past couple of days. Police said it was not known who was behind the action.
Nandigram block-II is the stronghold of the 9-party combine Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee formed to spearhead the movement against farmland acquisition for the chemical hub.
