The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to entertain Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's application seeking modification of its order for a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into assets owned by him and his family members.
However, a bench headed by Justice A R Lakshmanan gave liberty to him to file a petition seeking review of the March 1 order.
On Monday, Mulayam Singh had filed the petition seeking a stay on the CBI probe till the end of the Assembly elections in the state.
The court on March 1 had directed the CBI to hold a preliminary inquirty into allegations that the chief minister, his son Akilesh Yadav, Lok Sabha member, daughter-in-law Dimple and another son Prateek had amassed wealth by illegal means and by abusing official authority.
