A head constable of the Border Security Force has been sentenced to death for murdering two officers of the force at Rajnagar border outpost in 2006.
A BSF court found Head Constable Balbir Singh guilty of murdering the officers during a trial that concluded on Friday at the 22nd Battalion's headquarters at Fatikcherra in West Tripura district.
The sentence came days after an army court in Jammu and Kashmir gave a soldier the death sentence for killing a colonel.
When Deputy Commandant Kameswar Singh ticked off Balbir for dereliction of duties while he was on duty at Rajnagar outpost in South Tripura district, the head constable snatched a rifle from his colleague and shot dead the officer on June 7, the release said.
Balbir then gunned down Assistant Commandant Alok Ranjan as he had witnessed the killing of the other officer.
A case was filed in the court of the sub-divisional judicial magistrate at Belonia in South Tripura district and subsequently transferred to the BSF court.
This is the third case of a BSF court awarding the death sentence to the force's personnel for cases of murder, the release said.
