The Indian mission in Argentina has lined up a panel of lawyers to help the Central Bureau of Investigation team seek extradition of Bofors pay-off case accused Ottavio Quattrocchi, who was detained in the South American country.

"We have a panel of lawyers. It is for the CBI to choose," India's Ambassador to Argentina Pramathesh Rath told NDTV in Buenos Aires.

A two-member CBI team is visiting Buenos Aires to present the request for extradition of the Italian businessman, who was detained in Argentina's Misiones province on February six and was released on bail on February 23.

"We will take them (CBI team) to the foreign office and whatever has to be done will be done with the knowledge of the government of Argentina and within the law," said Rath.

The Ambassador said Quattrocchi was free on bail but his documents were with the court. Rath said getting bail was a simple process but is interpreted differently.

"Some judges say yes, some say no. Those who agree think it is unconstitutional to not grant bail. He asked for bail and it got rejected. He appealed again and got it on February 23," he said.

The mission was getting information about Quattrocchi 'as soon as possible,' he said, adding, "Communication with the foreign office takes at least a day."
