A group of maoists triggered an explosion and blew up the Mehsi railway station's control room at Motihari in East Champaran district on Monday.

Railway sources said two people were seriously injured in the explosion that occurred at around 0630 hrs. They were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Sources said the explosives were planted in a bicycle near the control room, which was badly damaged following the incident.

The sources said a major accident was averted as the explosion took place minutes before a passenger train crossed the station. Some other trains were also suspended for a few hours on the route.

The Railway Protection Force and Government Rail Police (were camping at the railway station. Train services had been resumed on the route after a security check.
