A woman special police officer has been arrested in Poonch for carrying explosives and arms, police said in Jammu on Monday.
Parveena Akhtar, working as a special police officer, was taken into custody by the troops when she was going to Poonch from Kerni on Sunday night, they said adding, some explosives material, one anti-personnel mine, light emission diode and one nine volt battery have been recovered from her possession.
During interrogation, she told the police that the explosives was given by her two cousins -- Akram and Wali Mohammad in Kerni, the sources said.
Both of them have also been apprehended by the troops at Poonch for further investigation, they said.
In a separate incident in Ramban district on Sunday, army troops launched a search operation in the upper reaches of the main town and recovered arms and ammunition.
Acting on a tip off, troops launched the search operation during which they had a brief encounter with the militants,, sources said.
The militants managed to escape following the encounter, but one universal machine gun, one under barrel grenade launcher round, 400 rounds of AK ammunition, 20 rounds of SLR and one wireless set were recovered during the subsequent search operation, police said.
The search is on to nab the fleeing militants, they added.
