Twenty-two confirmed cases of chikungunya have been reported from 12 villages of Maharashtra's Kolhapur following fever outbreak, the state's health authorities said on Wednesday.
"Of the 20 villages which had fever outbreak during our pre-monsoon survey in April and May, we found that 22 cases from 12 villages showed positive signs for chikungunya after the tests conducted at National Institute of Virology, Pune," Assistant Director S V Ranade of state Health Directorate told PTI.
"This report is for the last two months (April and May) and fever outbreak in the district was noticed as part of the routine pre-monsoon survey," Ranade said adding, this is a cumulative figure and all the patients have already been treated.
There are no new cases of chikungunya in the district.
"We have 25 suspected cases of chikungunya in Sangli district and blood samples have been sent to NIV," he said.
In districts like Solapur and Sindhudurg, no case of chikungunya has been reported so far, he added.
