The bodies of three members of the Gujjar community killed in police firing on Tuesday were cremated this afternoon at Patoli, about 110 km from Dausa.
The Gujjar leaders agitating for Scheduled Tribe status for their community decided to cremate the bodies of those killed in the ongoing stir in the state after the Rajasthan government agreed to compensate families of the
victims.
"Since the government has declared to give Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to the family of those killed, we have decided to cremate the bodies today," Roop Singh, a leader of the Gujjar delegation which held discussion with the state government over their demand for ST status, told PTI.
Two bodies have been sent to their native villages in Tota Bhim tehsil in Karauli district, he said.
Asked whether Gurjar Aarakshan Sangarsh Samiti leader Colonel Kirori Singh Bhainsla would be going to Jaipur for further talks with the state government as he has been invited for discussion, Singh said: "Yes, he is going but it is not
clear whether he would be going by air or by road."
