Shoot-at-sight orders have been issued by the Rajasthan government against rioters in Sawai Madhopur and Bharatpur districts to control the violence by Gurjar protestors demanding Scheduled Tribe status.
These directives were issued on Thursday night, along with prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC that will remain in force till June 6 in the two districts, a senior police officer said on Friday.
The state government has effected the shoot-at-sight orders against rioters who indulge in damaging government and public property and violate prohibitory orders in Sawai Madhopur and Bharatpur districts, the officer said.
In the violence that began on Tuesday over the Gurjar Sangharsh Samiti's demand for shifting the community from OBC to ST category, 20 people, including two policemen, have been killed in police firing and clashes.
Bharatpur Superintendent of Police Anand Srivastava told PTI over the phone that the situation in the district, which had witnessed largescale violence including in the worst-affected Bayana and Roopwas areas, has been under control since Thursday night.
Army and para-military forces patrolled the affected areas in the district and no fresh incident has been reported, he said.
Sawai Madhopur Collector Debasish Prusty said the situation in Bonli, Gangapur, Khandar (Dang area of Chambal) was normal and was being constantly monitored with the help of the Army and and other forces.
Army conducted flag marches in all sensitive areas of the district to maintain law and order, he said.
Four persons were killed in violent clashes between protestors and police in Bonli village on Thursday.
Kota, which had witnessed arson with protestors damaging rail tracks yesterday, also remained incident free, Superintendent of Police Rajesh Arya said.
