Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's motion of confidence in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly was passed 223-nil.
Amidst a boycott by the opposition, Yadav, heading a coalition government, tabled the confidence motion in a surprise move at the last minute as the House prepared to vote on the motion of thanks on the Governor's address.
The entire opposition had already announced boycott of the proceedings on Thursday morning and only members of the ruling side were present.
