As many as 52 lakh voters have been deleted and 48 lakh added in the electoral rolls of Uttar Pradesh, where assembly polls will be held soon, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami said on Tuesday.
"Our preparations regarding the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are going on and we will soon conduct elections there," he told reporters.
When asked to give a specific time frame regarding the Uttar Pradesh elections, Gopalaswami said they would be certainly held before May 14, when the term of the assembly expires.
Observing that 52 lakh voters were deleted and 48 lakh were added in Uttar Pradesh's electoral rolls, he said that this has resulted in decrease of four lakh voters in the state.
