In a significant decision, India on Thursday announced that an agreement on reducing the risk from accidents relating to nuclear weapons will be signed with Pakistan next month.
The agreement 'Reducing the Risk from Accidents relating to Nuclear Weapons' will be signed during the visit of Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri to New Delhi for the Joint Commission meeting.
The decision was taken at a meeting of Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters.
The dates for Kasuri's visit are being worked out through diplomatic channels.
Mukherjee said the issue had been under discussion with Pakistan for quite some time, and now the two countries were ready to sign it.
The two countries had reached an understanding on signing the agreement in November during the foreign secretary-level talks in Delhi, but a Cabinet approval was required for it.
