Three days after his father pleaded with him to surrender, rape convict Bittihotra Mohanty's 82-year-old grandmother has requested him to contact the family immediately.
"Please contact us wherever you are, we will try to help you," saying this Radharani Mohanty tried to reach out to her only grandson through the media.
"All of us are going through a lot of pain and anguish. We don't have any idea as to where he is. I have not seen him since long," she said over telephone.
Bitti's mother has been suffering from high blood pressure and "all we want to tell him is this: please contact us," she said.
Mohanty, convicted by a Rajasthan court for rape of a German tourist, had been granted parole from Jaipur jail where he was lodged on November 20, 2006.
Though he was to report back to the jail on December 4, he was yet to be traced.
Mohanty's father, Bidya Bhushan Mohanty, DGP (Home Guards) in Orissa, had spoken to a private news channel on Saturday appealing to his son to surrender while denying that he had been shielding him.
Mohanty also reiterated his plea that his son should be shifted to a jail in Orissa to help him "reintegrate" with the society and, family members could be in touch with him.
He had also said that his attempts to reach his son through friends and acquaintances had failed so far.
