The Patna high court on Friday granted bail to controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament Mohammed Shahabuddin in a violation of the Arms Act case.
In a major relief to Shahabuddin, the court has granted bail to Shahabuddin in the Arms Act after hearing the bail application filed by him, court officials told rediff.com on Friday.
Shahabuddin is currently lodged in Siwan jail after he was shifted from New Delhi-based AIIMS following his successful surgery in November 2005.
Earlier the court had rejected his bail application in the same case.
A case under the Arms Act was registered on the basis of the confessional statement of an associate, Jamaluddin, who was arrested with illegal firearms during a raid on the MP's house at Pratappur on April 24, 2005.
Jamaluddin had confessed to keeping in safe custody the firearms of foreign make, which allegedly belonged to Shahabuddin.
Shahabuddin is involved in over 40 criminal cases, including murder, abduction and possession of illegal arms.
