Indian women continue to face pressure to produce a male child, reveals a government survey released on Wednesday.

India's [ Images ] latest census data show that the preference for boys has skewed the gender ratio in the population of more than 1.1 billion people. Experts say that sex-selective abortions are responsible for the number of girls per 1,000 boys slipping from 945 in 1991 to 927 in 2001.
