Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul has ordered a thorough probe into the lapse in security that may have occurred at the Old Delhi railway station from where the ill-fated Delhi-Attari special train started its journey.
66 people were killed and 13 seriously injured in the explosions that rocked the train near Diwana (8 km away from Panipat) around midnight.
Talking to rediff.com, Paul said teams of the Delhi police and the Railways have been dispatched to the spot to gather information from the Haryana police and the railway police. "It is an unfortunate incident. We are investigating the matter," he said.
According to senior officials, the miscreants may have boarded the train from the Old Delhi station to plant the explosives, as the train runs non-stop from Delhi to Attari from where passengers are shifted to the Samjhauta Express, which goes to Lahore after Customs and Immigration clearances.
