Janata Dal (United) leader George Fernandes on Monday said it will be wrong to blame Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf for everything that happens in the country.
Talking to rediff.com after inspecting the burnt coaches of the Delhi-Attari special express, Fernandes said, "Why blame Musharraf every time something happens here. He is not safe in his own country. He is being targetted by fundamentalists and there have been attempts on his life as well."
Fernandes, who had been defence minister in the National Democratic Alliance government, blamed the Union government for not taking effective against the ISI who is operating throughout India.
"The Assam chief minister says ISI is helping ULFA but does not do anything against the latter. If the government is serious, it should take effective action against the ISI and put down terrorism by firm hand," Fernandes said.
Interestingly Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, who arrived at the same time as George Fernandes did, decided not to have a close look at the train when he spotted the Janata Dal (United) leader standing next to one of the burnt coaches and decided to walk away without talking to the media persons.
Meanwhile, anti-terrorist front chairman Maninderjit Singh Bitta has alleged that ISI was behind the incident and cautioned the government not to adopt soft tactics against the terrorists.
"Now a new thing is being done. Whenever incident like these take place, the argument given is that this is a handiwork of some desperate elements who want to thwart the Indo-Pak peace process. Even bigger incidents could take place in future," he warned.
