"I have just signed the document and it would now be translated and other small technical details would be taken care off and shortly we are going to make the plan public. A copy of the master plan is being sent to the honourable Supreme Court of India," he said.
The minister clarified that there would be no sealing in Delhi as the Union government has taken care of all the objections raised during the hearings in the Supreme Court.
He also announced the Union government's decision to set up a regulatory authority to control the private builders. "Since it is a state subject it is for the state governments to decide what kind of regulatory authority do they want to have in the field," he said when a journalist asked if the central regulatory authority would also deal with the states.
The minister announced the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission under which the focus would be on planned development of the slums in the urban areas. "The urban population has grown five times. The rising urban population has also given rise to increase in the number of urban poor," he said.
The increasing number of slum-dwellers causes tremendous pressure on urban basic service and the private builders would be asked to construct low cost houses fort he residents at the same place where they are living currently so that it lessens the burden on the transport system in the capital.
