Bangalore on Wednesday recorded its highest ever rainfall in 14 years, the weather department said.
Met department sources said the rainfall recorded between 8.30 am on Wednesday to 8.30 am on Thursday was 22.8 mm. The previous highest in a single day was 66.4 mm of rainfall on December 5 1993.
Met department officials said the rainfall is higher this year due to the change in the currents in the Bay of Bengal. The department warns of more rain till Saturday evening following which the clouds are expected to clear.
However, Bangalore is not complaining. The residents of the city had a hard time two years back, when rains had almost become a luxury in the city. There were dry spells in the city and the state of Karnataka was reeling under drought. The situation only improved a year back.
