A tribal girl was gangraped near the high-security Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar, barely a month after the gangrape of a local tourist near Konark Sun temple, the police said on Thursday.
Two persons, including a home-guard, have been detained in connection with the gangrape of the tribal girl from Kandhamal district on Tuesday night, women police station's officer-in-charge Bilasini Nayak said.
According to the FIR lodged by the girl with the women's police station, five people intruded into her house around 11 pm when she was alone as her brother-in-law and sister had gone to a relative's place.
Their four-year old son had been left with her.
Two of the intruders raped her inside the room itself after tying her hands with a rope and then took her in a car to a deserted place nearby where two others raped her before the victim fainted, the FIR said.
The victim was deserted near her sister's house in a pathetic condition.
The girl had recently come to her sister's place from Tiankhia village in Kandhamal district.
The two persons detained by police were identified as Tukuna, a homeguard, and Kelu, who works as a part-time gardner at a golf course, Nayak said, adding the probe was on to ascertain whether the incident was effected by any organised group.
Condemning the incident, various women's organisations have threatened to stage demonstrations to demand immediate arrest of the accused.
In a previous incident, a woman was dragged out of a passenger bus and gangraped by four persons near Konark when she was returning to herĀ village near Puri from the sun temple.
