Burnt human bones and ashes were recovered on Thursday from three of the five graves which were found at Bidyapith village in the Communist Party of India-Marxist stronghold of Khejuri near Nandigram on Wednesday.
"The graves, which were under guard by a 15-member CRPF team after their discovery on Wednesday, were dug after Contai Judicial Magistrate Jaiprakash Singh arrived this afternoon," Superintendent of Police, Midnapore (East), Satyeswar Panda said.
Eight human bones and ashes were found shortly after the digging began, he said.
Asked why it took so long for the magistrate to arrive, Panda said: "We had written to the court on Wednesday and it is all up to them to decide when they will send a magistrate."
Asked about the identity of the bodies, Panda said they could be of the five people killed while making bombs on October 28, or those who died on March 14, or during the violence on November 8.
Meanwhile, CPI-M's district Sabhadipati Niranjan Sihi claimed that the bodies found in the grave were of CPI-M men from Gokulnagar and Belda, who were killed in a bomb attack allegedly by Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee supporters on October 28.
The situation at the time was such that the bodies could not be taken back home, he said.
"Now somebody has informed the CRPF and the CBI and they are politicising it. The family members of the deceased have the post mortem reports with them," Sihi said.
Sihi claimed that the bodies were those of Bachchan Gurudas, Sunil Bar, Gourlaya Das, Simanata Das from Gokulnagar and Govinda Singh from Belda.
On the other hand, Trinamool Congress leader Subhendu Adhikari demanded a CBI investigation into the issue.
"There are a lot of buried bodies as also ammunition. We want a CBI investigation," he said.
