The Karnataka state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to be more assertive in their approach to put to an end the free run of their coalition partner the Janata Dal-Secular.
Karnataka state president for the BJP Sadananda Gowda expressed his displeasure over Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy skipping the coordination committee meeting on Saturday.
The meeting had been convened to sort out the differences between the BJP and the JD-S.
Differences had cropped up between the two parties after the CM is alleged to have said that the alliance with the BJP has dented the secular image of the JD-S.
Gowda said the meeting should not have been taken lightly by the CM and the coordination committee meeting should have not been put off so easily as the committee had a lot of sanctity.
Immediately after the meeting was called off, the BJP leaders who seemed panicky, rushed to the residence of Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to decide on the next course of action.
Although the BJP leaders did not arrive at anything concrete, they decided to be more assertive in the future.
The BJP leaders were of the opinion that the JD-S leaders were trying to push them to the wall and get them in defensive mode.
A BJP leader, who did not wish to be named, told rediff.com that the strategy by the JD-S was to ensure that the BJP makes the JD-S an offer to continue in power.
The BJP leader stated that there is no need for them (BJP) to be defensive as they are the senior coalition partners in the government with 79 seats in the Legislative Assembly. The JD-S has only 49 seats.
