Two persons, including a high school headmaster, were shot dead by suspected Black Widow militants in two separate incidents on violence in North Cachar Hill district of Assam on Thursday.

One of the killed persons was a militant from the Dima Halam Daogah group that is now in ceasefire with the central government.

The police said militant killed the headmaster of the Dibarai High School in Haflong town, Mannan Hussain, at around 11.30 am.

The headmaster went out of the school without informing anybody even as classes were on. He was killed about 250 meters away from the institution located in the heart of the town. The police said they suspect the assailants may have called him out over the phone.

In another incident, Laleh Khelma, a member of the militant Dima Halam Daogah was shot dead at his residence by militants from the rival Black Widow group at around 12.30 pm at a village called Chouddha Kilo under Umrangshu Police Station in the hill district.

The slain militant was a close associate of DHD chairman Dilip Nunisa, the police said.

The Black Widow, also called the DHD-J led by one Jewel Garlosa, is opposed to the peace process between the parent DHD and Centre.

The Black Widow group broke away from the parent group immediately after DHD signed truce pact with the government.

Since then the Black Widow and the DHD ultras have been engaged in bloody internecine clashes in the hill district.

Both the militant groups are allegedly involved in extortions.

Almost all government employees, school and college teachers, businessman in the hill districts are forced to cough up money by the militants on regular basis.
