Unidentified militants on Wednesday abducted the manager of an agricultural farm located at Narayanpur close to the India-Bangladesh border in Karimganj district of south Assam and later demanded Rs 20 lakh as ransom, the police said.
Rabindra Kumar Sinha had been woken up from his sleep and called out of his quarter at the farm of R&K Fishing and Agriculture Private Limited at around 2 am on Wednesday by unidentified persons before he went untraced.
His wife who was under the impression that he was called out by somebody from the farm, waited for her husband to return till about 5.30 am before she informed the police.
She failed to provide the police with any clue about the identity of the suspects.
The police have not ruled out the involvement of militants.
Rabindra Kumar is a close relative of Kartiksen Sinha, the BJP MLA from Patharkandi legislative assembly constituency in Karimganj district. The abductors later called Rabindra's wife to demand Rs 20 lakh as ransom for the safe released of her husband.
