Congress parliamentarian Rahul Gandhi on Friday invoked his ancestral lineage and its contribution to the country and Uttar Pradesh in particular during the fourth leg of his roadshow in connection with the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.
"I belong to the family of Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi...What Indira Gandhi has done to uplift Uttar Pradesh from the poor condition and bring prosperity to the people is known to all," he said.
Recalling his father's contribution to the nation, he said, "The fruits of the initiatives of Rajiv Gandhi in the IT sector are being reflected in every part of our life today."
Pledging to carry forward the family legacy, Rahul said, "I will take ahead their work. Do not think that I am here just for elections. I will be with you in every fight of yours."
Criticising the Mulayam Singh-led Uttar Pradesh government, he called upon the people to be proactive for their rights.
"Best value to your crop, irrigation facilities, power and roads are your basic right. You should not let anyone to take off your rights and enjoy power without responsibility," Rahul, who was in Shahbad as part of his fourth road show to campaign for the Congress candidate Guddi Begum, said.
He would cover Rampur, Muradabad, Amroha and Bareilly during three days of the road show.
