Ahead of his talks with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh on the margins of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation summit in New Delhi, Pakistan Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz today said the objective of peace and prosperity in South Asia cannot be realised without a durable solution to the Kashmir issue.

Pakistan wanted positive outcome of the on-going dialogue process, he said, adding it should lead to resolution of all bilateral problems, including Jammu and Kashmir in line with the "aspirations" of the Kashmiri people.

The objective of peace and prosperity in South Asia cannot be realised without a durable solution to the Kashmir issue, Aziz, who is scheduled to have talks with Singh on Wednesday, told reporters before leaving for New Delhi to attend the SAARC summit.

About the summit, he said Pakistan wanted it to be result oriented to improve lives of over one billion people of the region.

Describing SAARC as an important organisation, Aziz said the member states had long been discussing the ways and means to achieve the objective of closer cooperation. "It is time that we take concrete measures for progress and prosperity of people of South Asia and peace and stability of the region."

Aziz said Pakistan was committed to the SAARC and wanted it to play a pivotal role for regional cooperation.

He called for initiating tangible projects to realise the objective of progress and development of the entire region and proposed strengthening the role of the SAARC Secretariat.

Aziz said during his talks with other leaders on the sidelines of the summit, he would exchange views on strengthening the SAARC process for the greater benefit of the people of the region.
