The situation in Kanpur's riot-torn Armapore locality remains tense but under control after a clash between a mob and police left one dead and injured thirty others on Sunday, during a Milad-un-Nabi function.

The administration has videographed the entire incident and tapes would be sent to the Election Commission, District Magistrate Anurag Srivastava said.

The district administration -- after taking permission from the Election Commission -- gave Rs 1 lakh late Sunday night to the family members of 16-year old Shamshad who was killed in the clash.

Police also staged a flag march and conducted a house-to-house search to nab the culprits.

Meanwhile, Kanpur district Samajwadi Party president Nasiruddin charged the district administration with 'wrongly' involving his party candidate from the Kalyanpur assembly segment Satish Nigam in 'false cases related to Sunday's violence'.

The Union Minister of State for Home, Sriprakash Jaiswal, who was in Kanpur for election campaigning strongly condemned the incident and said it took place due to the carelessness of district administration and police.

Bharatiya Janata Party state president Keshri Nath Tripathi blamed the ruling party for the clashes.

Election rallies by actress and SP MP Jaya prada and party national general secretary Amar Singh had to be cancelled due to the situation.
