India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Nirupama Rao was on Wednesday named as the next envoy to China.
She will succeed Nalin Surie who is tipped to return to the headquarters as secretary.
Rao, a 1973-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, was posted to Colombo in August 2004. Prior to her posting in Colombo, she had served in Delhi as external affairs ministry spokesperson.
